Concerning Bill Strauss... Nov. 16th, 2007 @ 01:09 pm
To Cappies Nation...

Cappies co-founder, Bill Strauss, has had a sudden decline in health. He is resting comfortably at home surrounded by his family and is in Hospice care as of today.

As you know, Cappies has been Bill's passion since he came up with the idea just nine years ago, and each of you means the world to him as you continue to promote excellence in high school theater. Please know he has clearly expressed this gratitude frequently--especially these past few days.

If you want to send him good wishes, please email him at william.strauss@cappies.com or send cards to his home address at:
1316 Rockland Terrace
McLean, VA 22101

The family requests you use one of these two methods of contact...needless to say phone calls would deluge them...thank you for understanding.

We will keep you posted on a regular basis with updates on Bill's condition.

Okay, so my amazingly talented friend JESSICA is an East Coast finalist in the Be Wicked! singing contest. She's got an incredible voice and deserves your vote, and all you have to do is go to www.wicked-week.com, register (it only takes a second!), and vote for her under "For the Wicked Fan Only". She's listed as "Jessica, 14, from Florida".

If you watch all the videos, you'll see that Jessica's the best one there. Please vote! Thank you!

Hello Cappies folk, I'm working on a new design for Cappies 2007 and the website. Please take a look at the image below and let me know what you think. Thanks!

ATTN: LEAD CRITICS Mar. 2nd, 2006 @ 06:24 pm

I am in DIRE need of a team to switch assignments with mine. North Broward's assigned to see Stage Door The Comedy of Errors at Deerfield Beach High School on March 31st, and I am the only team member who will be able to attend (we're having a Thespian gala that evening). Mrs. Sessions won't switch our assignment to another show unless I can find a team willing to be assigned to Deerfield's show in our place.

If you can take our spot at Deerfield' show, I'll bring you a cookie of your choice at the next Cappies show. I'm not kidding; I need this assignment changed.

Dear SFC Cappies,

I would like to let you all know that
(a) I do not have an editor at a major New York publishing house, although sometimes I wish I did and
(b) I do not have a code word that I place in all of my reviews so that the mentors know to pick mine. Boys and girls, that would be cheating. Cheating is wrong. These are the lamest "Sarah is a cheater" rumors I've heard to date.

This is my third year being a Cappies critic, so I'd like to think that I know how to write a review by now. You don't need to cheat to get published- you just need to write well.

So to whoever started these very, very funny rumors, thanks for making my day (I needed a laugh) and please get some new material- better yet, don't. Cappies has enough drama to last a lifetime, and you don't need to be jealous and start rumors.

» NCA Cappies Gala on TV
The 2005 Cappies Gala will be broadcast on Cox Cable Channel 21,
starting next week and continuing through the summer. The broadcast
times for next week are:

Monday 7/4 - Thursday 7/6 @ 1:00 p.m.
Friday 7/7 - Sunday 7/10 @ 9:00 p.m.

The broadcast is 3 hours 16 minutes in length.

We do not yet know broadcast schedules in other areas.

We will not be able to make videos available for sale, so we urge everyone to make a personal copy from a broadcast.

We hope you are all able to see the broadcast, even if you have to visit friends in Fairfax County. We're hoping it will be broadcast elsewhere, but we're not sure yet. We'll keep critics in other counties advised about any broadcasts planned for your areas.

Also: Go to www.cappies.com/nca/, and click on the link to Gala photos, to see photos from the Gala, along with four special photo albums (prior day's rehearsal, pre-Gala Kennedy Center, photos of Cappie winners with trophies, and some photos of students with the Cappies alumnus on American Idol, Travis Tucker). The photo page includes the first photo of each of the albums along with the first of over 400 Gala photos (the fifth one on the page), the one entitled Cappies 05-001. To access other Gala photos, click on the page links below... To see all the Gala photos quickly, click on "view slide show," and then click on the "delay" toggle, and set it at "1 second".

You can see photos from the 2004 Cappies Gala by clicking on that link on the same page.

» New HelpDesk...
http://helpdesk.cappies.com/ -- The biggest upgrade of major portion of software in a while... Hi my name is Adam and I'll be your Cappies webmaster for the evening... After about 2 hours of working in style sheets, making shading work, and among other things... making the icons properly link to the php structure. The new HelpDesk look is online. I think I'm going to go have a 4 hour nap now before I go to school in the morning. *yawns*
» A desperate plea for help!

I need to speak to a Lead Critic as soon as humanly possible about switching assignments. My team is assigned to see Seussical (American Heritage) this upcoming Friday, February 25th. It turns out that only two out of the six regular team members can attend, and regional critics won't count. My only option at this point is to BEG another Lead Critic to trade assignments with my team, North Broward. I'm sorry that it's so last-minute but this was an unexpected problem and I'M DESPERATE FOR HELP. If you are a Cappies critic, please give me the email of your Lead Critic.

I'm cross-posting this in district_07 and cappies_unite too, so I'm sorry if you get this more than once; I just need to get this assignment switched.

*I guess I should note that I'm part of the South Florida program.
